Lubbock Goodwill History
In late 1966, several prominent Lubbock citizens, spearheaded by Clem Boverie, joined forces to raise the funds needed to establish Goodwill Industries in Lubbock. Mr. Boverie approached the Lubbock Lions Club whose members agreed to donate $29,000-their largest donation ever at that time-and the Lubbock Rotary Club whose members committed $5,000.
In September 1967, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock, Inc. opened its doors at 715 28th Street. The organization boasted a sewing room staffed with experienced seamstresses, a cleaning plant to launder all saleable merchandise that was contributed, and a furniture repair shop.
Lubbock Goodwill Industries now owns and operates out of the five stores in Lubbock and satellite stores in Plainview and Levelland. There are four donation sites at convenient locations in Lubbock and donations are also accepted at any store location.
Goodwill’s primary efforts are aimed at training and placing people with disabilities and/or disadvantages in useful and productive jobs. Many clients work in janitorial contract positions. Others are hired to work in the stores.
In April 2007, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock, Inc. opened a specialty store at the 28th St. location which offers refurbished computers, both fully assembled and in parts, and a large selection of books.

CLERICAL TEMP SERVICES
Goodwill Industries of Lubbock, Inc. now offers clerical temporary and clerical temp-to-hire employment solutions in an effort to further our mission of assisting people with barriers to employment in finding work. Goodwill Clerical Temporary Service (GCTS) is a community rehabilitation program, and a temporary clerical solution for state agencies, county offices, and the private industry. We are the sole source for state governmental agencies through TIBH (Texas Industry for the Blind and Handicapped) which gives people with disabilities the opportunity to gain valuable work experiences through GCTS. We also offer competititve salaries for clerical, secretary, record control, data entry, and administrative assistant positions. The amounts we charge for our temp workers is only enough for us to cover our costs for the service, not to produce a profit, which allows us to offer better rates than our competitors.
